Wounded Warrior Project - Burden Lake, NY

>> Monday, August 3, 2009

If you are not familiar with this organization and you like your freedom, you should take a little time and volunteer for this great cause. The Adaptive Sport Foundation located in Windham, NY hosts 3 events annually for wounded vets through the Wounded Warrior Project program.

This weekend brought back several vets I knew and a bunch of new ones all trying to learn a new sport - water skiing, kayaking and canoeing. Again, it's hard enough when you have all your parts but these men and women don't. They have overcome what most of us could never even dream of.

Enjoy......and start volunteering!

Wounded Warrior Project event in Windham, NY

>> Sunday, June 7, 2009

I truly enjoyed volunteering yesterday at a Wounded Warrior Project event in Windham, NY with the Adaptive Sports Foundation. Eight U.S. Soldiers who were wounded in the Iraq/Afgan war participated in a woman's only golf weekend.

Playing golf is hard enough.....try it with only one arm or one leg, or even less. Get out and volunteer for something TODAY!

If you didn't know, I was the program director for 1 year of this foundation after leaving Vermont. One of the toughest and most rewarding years of my life. Think you have it tough, get involved and you will think differently.

With over 250 volunteers, ASF teaching sports to people with both physical and mental disabilities. Skiing, Snowboarding, Waterskiing and Kayaking are just a few sports they offer.
